Chicago-based Pepper Construction Group has named Bill McCarthy chief executive officer. He has served as president of Pepper Indiana since 1995. The announcement is one of several leadership changes unveiled today by the company. November 14, 2013

Indianapolis, IN – November 13, 2013 Pepper Construction today announced several key leadership changes which are effective immediately.

Bill McCarthy has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Pepper Construction Group. He previously served as President of Pepper Indiana. With more than 32 years of experience in the industry, McCarthy will be responsible for setting Pepper Construction Group’s strategic vision, ensuring growth and enhancing alignment across Pepper’s offices in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Texas.

McCarthy was appointed president of Pepper Indiana in 1995, and under his leadership the company has grown to rank as one of the largest general contracting and construction management firms in Indiana. McCarthy is involved in numerous local industry and community organizations. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Top Notch and the United Way of Central Indiana Capital Projects Committee.

McCarthy served as the founding president of Rebuilding Together Indianapolis. He is the past vice president of Crossroads Council of Boy Scouts of America and the past chair of the Indiana Construction Roundtable Diversity Initiative. McCarthy will remain in Indiana, where he will continue his involvement in the local community. McCarthy earned his bachelor’s of science degree in architecture from the University of Illinois and holds a master’s of management degree from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

In a related move, Mike McCann has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of Pepper Indiana. McCann will be responsible for integrating the overall vision and strategy of the company into day-to-day processes. He will work closely with the company’s top leadership to ensure Pepper Indiana maintains and grows its position as a leader in the Indiana construction market. McCann joined Pepper in 1980 and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He will report to McCarthy.

McCann is very involved in the development and growth of the construction industry. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Construction Association, the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Construction Engineering Management Technology advisory board and he serves as a mentor for both the Indiana Construction Roundtable Diversity Initiative and the Starfish Initiative program. McCann also served as a board member for the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Lean Construction Institute. McCann holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Construction Engineering from Bradley University and is certified as a LEED AP BD+C.

In a related move, the company promoted Steve Allemeier and Bob Eckl to Senior Vice President of Pepper Construction Company of Indiana. Together, Allemeier and Eckl will oversee Pepper Indiana’s operations, including working with project management to plan, organize, staff and execute work, managing the company’s self-perform operations and working with project teams and clients to ensure expectations are met while maintaining profitability.

Steve Allemeier has more than 28 years of experience in construction and has been with Pepper since 1999. Since then, he has provided oversight to some of Pepper Indiana’s largest and most complex projects, such as construction of the Riley Hospital for Children Simon Family Tower and Parkview Regional Medical Center. He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University.

Bob Eckl has more than 24 years of experience in the construction industry and has been with Pepper since1996. Eckl specializes in retail construction, and his experience includes the Fashion Mall at Keystone at the Crossing renovation and construction of the Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville. He was also an instrumental figure in the development of Pepper’s comprehensive quality program. Eckl is an ACE Mentor Board Member and serves as the Mentor Committee Chairman. He is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Eckl holds a bachelor’s of science degree in construction administration from the University of Wisconsin.
