Two business organizations in the Fort Wayne area are considering options as other groups detail their positions on a potential same-sex marriage amendment to the state Constitution. Our partners at 21 Alive WPTA in Fort Wayne report the heads of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana and Greater Fort Wayne Inc. say their groups have not reached a consensus on the matter. Regional Chamber Executive Director Vince Buchanan tells our partners at 21 Alive WPTA in Fort Wayne the chamber's membership has passionate views on both sides of the issue. Last week, the Indy Chamber revealed it will oppose the proposed amendment when it comes up for debate during next year's General Assembly session.

Greater Fort Wayne Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Becker says that announcement came as a surprise and his organization has not taken a stance.

For those two chambers on the sideline for now, a prominent statewide employer is lining up with a coalition opposing the amendment.

Indiana University has announced it is a member of Freedom Indiana, which is against efforts to have the Constitution define marriage as strictly between a man and a woman.

IU President Michael McRobbie says the proposal does not align with the school's values and could result in a “disincentive” for top talent to move to Indiana.
