The chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based WellPoint Inc. (NYSE: WLP) is scheduled to attend a meeting with White House officials to discuss the Affordable Care Act. Bloomberg reports Joe Swedish will be part of Wednesday's session along with the White House chief of staff and a senior presidential adviser. The open enrollment period has been plagued by problems with the website that is supposed to serve as a portal allowing people to sign up.

The health insurance industry has expressed concern about some information they have received from the federal exchange, which opened October 1.

That could prevent coverage for some when the plans kick-in next year.

WellPoint held its quarterly earnings conference call Wednesday morning. Bloomberg reports Swedish stated the company “remains optimistic” about the system despite the problems.
