Ivy Tech Community College is partnering with Conexus Indiana to grow an effort that provides manufacturing and logistics training at high schools throughout the state. The Hire Technology program allows students to earn industry certifications while preparing to enter the work force or post-secondary programs. In a Studio(i) interview, Senior Vice President For Program Analysis and Engagement Jeff Terp says the initiative has grown to nearly 40 schools. Terp says, although manufacturing has helped lead Indiana out of the recession, many employers continue to struggle finding qualified applicants. He says the need is “becoming desperate” because of retiring Baby Boomers.

The program allows students to earn 9-15 credit hours at Ivy Tech while still in high school. Terp says students are able to participate in the program for free, and the dual credit allows them to save money if they continue at Ivy Tech.
