The Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County has approved grants for two businesses. Our partners at Kicks 96 report the funding will help keep nearly four dozen employees of Pennsylvania-based Matthews International Corp. in Richmond and bolster Ohio-based Sugar Creek Packing Co.'s hiring plans in Cambridge City. Matthews now intends to stay in Wayne County and use the $75,000 boost for job training and consolidating Richmond operations into two sites.

Sugar Creek previously announced plans to add 400 workers by 2016. The $150,000 from the EDC will go toward programs such as technical training scholarships for those interested in filling the positions.

The company is in the process of setting up production in the former Really Cool Foods facility.
