The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to Allen County nonprofits. Among the largest is a $50,000 grant to the Matthew 25 health clinic for services to uninsured, low-income patients.

Fort Wayne, Ind. — The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne distributed a total of $971,279 in new grant awards to nonprofit agencies serving Allen County. Recipients included:

AIDS Task Force ($42,500) – Care coordination services for persons living with HIV/AIDS and for HIV Prevention Programs;

Allen County Fort Wayne Historical Society ($20,000) – K-12 student group tour visitation program at the History Center;

ARCH ($10,000) – Protection and preservation of historic places in Allen County;

Artlink ($5,000) – Annual programming of exhibits and educational programs;

Associated Churches of Fort Wayne ($30,000) – Neighborhood food bank network;

Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne ($35,000) – Youth development programs;

Cedars Hope – ($5,000) Permanent housing program for women with mental illness;

Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana ($15,000) – Client services program;

Crime Victim Care of Allen County ($10,000) – Services for refugees;

Crossroad Child & Family Services ($10,000) – Treatment services for troubled children and their families;

East Wayne Street Center ($25,000) – Project Solve and Adult Education GED Programs;

Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana ($15,000) – Employment and job training opportunities;

Erin’s House for Grieving Children ($20,000) – Bereavement support services;

Headwaters Counseling ($15,000) – Programs to develop healthy relationships;

Fort Wayne Public Television ($15,000) –Local cultural and public affairs programs;

Fort Wayne Trails ($5,000) – Regional multi-use trail system;

Hope House ($10,000) – Services to help homeless, chemically dependent women become self-sufficient;

Matthew 25 ($50,000) – Healthcare services to uninsured, low income residents of Allen County;

Mustard Seed Furniture Bank ($25,000) – General operating support;

Pathfinder Services ($5,000) – Allen County community development;

SCAN ($20,000) – Family Restoration Program;

Vincent Village ($42,500) – Programs serving homeless families with children;

Wellspring Interfaith Social Services ($40,000) – Youth after school and summer day camp programs;

YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne ($42,500) – Renaissance Pointe YMCA’s after-school and summer learning programs, and the Youth Services Bureau’s Status Offender Court Alternative Program.

Applications to the Community Foundation are evaluated through a special process executed by its Grant Review Committee (GRC). The GRC is comprised of five to seven members, a majority of which are board members; however other community leaders also serve on the GRC.

The principal function of the GRC is to review grant applications in excess of $20,000 and make funding recommendations to the board of directors. Reviewing the applications includes grant analysis presented by staff, recommendations by technology advisors, evaluation of the feasibility of each proposal, informing the board of directors of identified community needs and service gaps, and addressing priority funding areas.
