The city of Indianapolis is holding a meeting this afternoon to gather input on turning one of the state's best-known landmarks into a historic district. The designation would help the city provide direction for future development of the Monument Circle area. July 24, 2013

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The public is invited to an informational meeting about the proposed Monument Circle District Plan. The historic core of Indianapolis has a variety of architectural styles dating from the Civil War to the present day. The City of Indianapolis provides special protection for 16 historic districts, yet many have noted that this level of protection is not provided for the most significant part of our City – the very heart of our City. Designation of the Monument Circle District will provide orientation and direction for future development that is responsive to the architecture and cultural resources of this unique area. Its guidelines seek to retain the maximum number of existing resources while permitting design of new and creative reuses, additions, and new structures that allow the public to appreciate and interpret the historic heart of Indianapolis.

WHEN: Thursday, July 25, 2013 4:00 PM-6:00 PM.

WHERE: Indiana Landmarks Center 1201 Central Ave.
