The Indianapolis Fire Department has landed a more than $450,000 federal grant. The funding will be used to bolster the department's investigation unit. July 23, 2013

News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Joe Donnelly today announced a grant awarded to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). IFD was awarded $455,039 through the FY 2012 Fire Prevention & Safety program, an initiative included in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

“Those who serve in the Indianapolis Fire Department put their lives on the line for Hoosiers every day,” said Donnelly. “The assistance provided by FEMA will allow the department to obtain critically needed equipment and personnel to better keep the Indianapolis community safe.”

“The Indianapolis Fire Department is very excited to receive this Fire Prevention Grant,” said Brian Sanford, Indianapolis Fire Department Chief. “This much needed federal assistance will enable us to increase our fire investigation program and to more aggressively investigate every fire in our service area.”

Fire Prevention & Safety Grants are given to first responder organizations wishing to invest in additional support for their team or other needs within their department. All grants awarded by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security are done on a competitive basis.
