The state is receiving more than $2 million in additional federal funding to retrain dislocated workers. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the money is part of a $58 million effort for states to help laid off employees. July 3, 2013

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS – Last week the U.S. Department of Labor announced the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) will receive an additional $2.34 million in federal funds to retrain dislocated workers over the next two years. The grant is part of a $58 million effort to bolster state initiatives to retrain laid-off individuals through short-term class work or on-the-job training. Indiana’s portion represents four percent of the entire grant and is the second largest per-capita allocation of the funding divided among 30 states.

“As federal education and training funds continue to dwindle, these dollars are a much-welcomed contribution to Indiana’s efforts to retrain and refocus the Hoosier workforce to meet the needs of employers,” said Scott B. Sanders, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
