Community Health Unveils New Internal Structure

Indianapolis, Ind. — Community Health Network has unveiled a new internal structure that will position the organization to serve more patients, meet their needs more quickly and easily, keep them healthier and improve patient outcomes. The new structure also allows for coming changes facing the healthcare industry, without an enterprise-wide reduction in work force. Community continues to hire new talent.
“Through the years, we've built an amazing organization that is achieving outstanding things,” said Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network. “The structure of our organization was designed for a different time and environment. We’ve started with a blank page to design a healthcare delivery system unlike anything in our area.”
The major changes for Community involve mapping out the parts of the network that must function seamlessly—and then uniting them under common leadership with common goals and accountability. Another aspect of the new structure will include both executive and physician leaders for all product lines. Brand new functional areas for the network are offices of Knowledge Management, Outcomes and Performance and Patient Experience.
Community will also use a regional approach operationally, a strategy that positions the healthcare system for future new business opportunities. New positions include regional executives teamed with physician advisors in six regions currently serving the network’s market areas: North, South, East, West, Anderson/Madison County and Howard County.
“We began an efficiency process in earnest three years ago,” said Tom Fischer, CFO/COO of Community Health Network. “Now, it's about putting the care delivery components together in a way that will provide patients with excellent care, delivered seamlessly and at an affordable cost. The future is now. We believe that our patients are demanding excellent care, simply delivered.”
In addition, all employed practicing physicians across the organization will now be managed by Community Physician Network. Independent and affiliated physicians will now be integrated through a new entity called the Physician Enterprise.
The implementation of the new structure begins July 1.
