The Criminal Justice Reform Task Force that was convened by Mayor Joe Hogsett says the estimated cost for the campus could run between $565 million and $575 million. Additionally, the task force says related, off-site renovation projects could cost around $74 million.
The preliminary facilities cost analysis did not pin down potential the price of financing the high-profile work, but did estimate the city could have some $35 million in revenue available to go toward the project each year for the next 30 years. The task force says finance, procurement and construction processes will be announced March 31.
In January, the city announced its preferred location for the project, a former Citizens Energy gas plant on the east side.
In December, the task force announced recommendations for the campus, including the four facilities it says should be included: an assessment and intervention facility, a consolidated county jail, a courts facility and a professional office building with public and private space.
Hogsett’s successor, Greg Ballard, championed a proposal for the former GM Stamping Plant site near the White River that was eventually scrapped by the City-County Council.
