Officials with the Ohio River Bridges Project say the finish line is in sight with work more than 85 percent complete on the Downtown Crossing. Crews continue to reconfigure the Kennedy Interchange, where I-65, I-64 and I-71 come together.

Officials say the interchange reconfiguration is the most complicated part of the project, in which crews are "untangling the many weaves of ‘Spaghetti Junction,’" and building new ramps that separate traffic and create longer, safer merges.

The Downtown Crossing will have more than 60 new overpasses and bridges, including 40 in Kentucky and 20 in southern Indiana. When the project is complete, the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge will have six lanes of northbound I-65 traffic and the improved Kennedy Bridge will have six lanes of southbound I-65 traffic.

Additional ramps were opened last month. The Downtown Crossing is expected to be complete in December.
