Progress continues on a high-profile construction project in southeast Indiana. Additional ramps on the Louisville and Jeffersonville sides of the Ohio River Bridges Project are set Thursday to open.

It involves connecting Indiana with Kentucky via the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge, improved Kennedy Bridge and several new roads and overpasses for I-65 and I-64.

The ramp from Court Avenue to I-65 South in Jeffersonville and another from Story Avenue to I-64 West in Louisville are set to open to traffic. Officials say the openings will ease congestion for travelers heading to the upcoming Kentucky Derby.

The work is led by Walsh Construction crews and will be complete ahead of schedule. It closed in late-February.

The Kennedy Bridge will eventually carry six lanes of southbound traffic, using the Court Avenue ramp. The Lincoln Bridge will be a six-lane northbound span and cars will use the Story Avenue ramp. In October, Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials announced the project is slated to be finished by the end of the year, early.
