Visit Indy Honors Madam C.J. Walker

This week Visit Indy named Madam C.J. Walker as the 2018 “Bill McGowan Leadership Award” winner. Madam Walker revolutionized black hair care in the early 1900’s and built her hair care empire in Indianapolis. Her great-great granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles, who is the foremost historian and author of Madam Walker, received the award on her great-great grandmother’s behalf. Madam C.J. Walker died in 1919.
