Indiana Leaders Request Disaster Designation

Subscribe NowMembers of Indiana’s delegation have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in support of a disaster designation for 88 of the state’s 92 counties. The letter from U.S. Senators Todd Young (R) and Mike Braun (R) and Representative Larry Bucshhon (R-08), along with the entire Indiana delegation, officially requests the designation.
“Indiana farmers experienced prolonged rains for the 2019 spring season, affecting their ability to plant corn and soybeans in a timely fashion before crop insurance deadlines passed. This adverse weather caused many farmers to file prevented planting claims and those able to plant will inevitably face a shortened growing season with decreased yields at harvest time," according to the letter. The designation would allow emergency low-interest loans for farmers and counties affected.
