The research group is led by Harikrishna Nakshatri of the university’s Marian J. Morrison Professor of Breast Cancer Research and Professor of Surgery.
Team members include Yunlong Liu, PhD, T. K. Li Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics, and Anna Maria Storniolo, MD, Professor of Clinical Medicine and Founder and Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank. Each are researchers at the IU Simon Cancer Center and the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research.
“The goal of this particular project is, through the 75 samples we will be testing from women of different genetic ancestries, to produce a complete map of the normal breast,” said Nakshatri, ““We want to answer the questions: How many types of cells are present in the breast? How many changes do you see between women of different genetic ancestry? And eventually we want to know how much of it will change based on age.”
