Zylo says it is partnering with the Pledge 1% program to support nonprofits United Way of Central Indiana and Flanner House in Indy. The program encourages companies to pledge 1 percent of their equity, product or employee time for their communities and Eric Christopher, co-founder and chief executive officer of Zylo, says it allows small companies like his to give back in a purposeful way.
In an interview on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, Christopher said the company’s employees influenced the decision to participate.
"Our employees really spoke out to say, ‘We want to do something bigger than just build a great company. We really want to help the local community,’" said Christopher. "So we chose to do it now, build the community into the DNA of our business very early on and then hopefully even inspire others to join us along the way with it."
Christopher says he believes the Pledge 1% model could grow among tech companies in the Indianapolis area. He says there are a few others, such as Lessonly, that are already on board.
"In the Bay Area where it kind of all originated, there are many, many companies, I think there’s hundreds of companies doing this. We think this could be a great way to sort of network together companies so that you can take this great technology community and be able to give back in a more scalable way."
