Delany to Step Down as Big Ten Commissioner

Subscribe NowThe Big Ten Conference today announced that Jim Delany will officially step down as Big Ten Commissioner at the end of his current contract which expires in June of next year. The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors will conduct a search to fill the role.
The search process is being led by Morton Schapiro, president at Northwestern University alongside an executive committee. They have also hired Los Angeles-headquartered executive search and management consulting firm Korn Ferry to assist in the search.
“Jim has had an extraordinary impact on the Big Ten Conference, its member institutions, administrators, students and coaches since 1989,” said Schapiro in a news release. “He has been a forward-thinking, collaborative and decisive leader in every aspect of conference proceedings. We thank him for his dedicated service to date and look forward to working with him through the conclusion of his contract.”
Although Delany is leaving The Big Ten, representatives from the conference say he is not retiring. No future plans for Delany have been disclosed.
Delany joined The Big Ten, which includes Purdue University and Indiana University, in August 1989.
