FISHERS -

Fishers-based Eleven Fifty Academy says it is the first in Indiana and one of just a few in the nation to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as a registered software development apprenticeship program. The department is taking part in a ceremonial signing with the academy this morning at Eleven Fifty's headquarters in Launch Fishers. Founder Scott Jones says, with tens of thousands of tech jobs available in Indiana, the designation shows Eleven Fifty is "doing its part to skill up a workforce."

In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, Eleven Fifty President John Qualls said the honor validates what the academy is doing for students and employers.

The apprenticeship program was created in part by a grant from salesforce.org to Jobs For The Future, a national nonprofit working to align and strengthen the American workforce and education systems. The academy, a nonprofit organization, says students who graduate the apprenticeship programs can qualify for guaranteed jobs through partner employers. Eleven fifty Academy touts hundreds of graduates since launching more than four years ago.

The designation is just the latest honor for Eleven Fifty. Last month, the academy was named one of the Best Coding Bootcamps of 2018-2019 by Course Report, a website billing itself as "the leading authority on immersive technology education."

Scott Jones is chairman of Grow INdiana Media Ventures, the parent company of Inside INdiana Business.
