Science Central says it is undergoing a fundraising effort to build the $2 million planetarium, which will take up to two years to construct.
The museum says it has raised just over $1 million to date. The funding will cover startup costs, demolition, construction and installation, long-term operations, staffing and equipment. The planetarium will be a permanent, 1,500-square-foot exhibit located in an unused portion of the Science Central building.
Science Central says it will incorporate the original star ball from the University of Saint Francis, along with a modern digital system that will show the sky from Earth’s position as well as images from the Solar System and beyond.
"Science Central’s planetarium will integrate hundreds of other exhibits, programs and activities," the museum said in a news release. "Not only will it add to the visitor experience, it will be used as a resource for countless students, teachers, scouts, science camps and more."
The museum does not have an estimated start date for the project. You can learn more about the fundraising effort by clicking here.
