High Tech Telehealth Comes to Vermillion County

CAYUGA -

North Vermillion Community School Corporation students and staff will have access to a new telehealth clinic established at North Vermillion Elementary School. The clinic will deploy medical providers from Valley Professionals Community Health Center after its inclusion in the Indiana Rural Schools Clinic Network.

The new clinic uses diagnostic equipment and sensors to transmit through secure broadband from the school to a facility operated by Valley Professionals Community Health Center. The system will allow for initial diagnosis and treatment with help from an on-site nurse.

"This technology provides a new level of medical services that we can provide to our students onsite. We can address acute medical care issues as they arise within the school day," said Gina Byrum, corporation school nurse. “This is one more way our staff can help make sure our students stay healthy.".

Video-conferencing equipment will also allow for some patients to receive prescriptions without an in-person visit. Children must have prior consent from a parent/guardian, any fees will be billed to insurance and no student will be denied treatment due to an inability to pay.

The telehealth clinic is funded by a Health Resources and Services Administration grant through the Indiana Rural Health Association.
