Deaconess Steps up For Planned Aquatic Center
Just before a proposal for a new indoor public pool is introduced to the City Council, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has announced a title sponsor. Deaconess Aquatics Center, supported by a $2.5 million donation from Evansville-based Deaconess Health System, will be the successor to the more than 40-year-old Lloyd Pool.
The corporate sponsorship, Winnecke said on Twitter, will last 15 years. Plans call for the new center to be located in Garvin Park, across from Bosse Field in the Jacobsville area. A combination of gaming proceeds, tax increment financing dollars and private investment will pay for the center, according to Winnecke.
Additional details of the proposal will be unveiled during a public meeting with the council Monday.
