An international publication has chosen the 50 most beautiful university campuses in the country, and Indiana is represented well. Condè Nast Traveler's editors compiled the list comprised of universities from 21 states and the District of Columbia.

Indiana placed three universities on the list- DePauw University, Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame. The publication touted one of DePauw's oldest and likely most recognizable buildings, East College, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. DePauw's 520 acre nature park, featuring 9 trails, and an abandoned limestone quarry, were other factors in DePauw making the list.

Indiana University in Bloomington was noted for its Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture and designs, along with its 1,200 miles of biking and running trails. The editors also praised the beauty of the Jordan River, named for former university president David Starr Jordan, that runs through campus.

The University of Notre Dame's golden dome wasn't the only reason the South Bend campus was among the 50, Condè Nast also cited the Virgin Mary statue and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart as pillars of beauty. The university's 218 foot high chapel is the tallest of its kind in the U.S.

California placed the most on the list, with 7 universities. New York had 5 and Massachusetts and North Carolina each had 4. For the complete list, click here
