INDIANAPOLIS -

Work on a large section of Interstate 65 throughout Indianapolis will finish ahead of schedule. The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced the stretch of interstate will open Friday evening, two days before the deadline of August 5th.

Crews expect to open southbound lanes first, beginning around 6pm, then open northbound lanes Saturday morning at 6. American Contracting & Services rehabilitated six bridges on I-65 between Meridian Street and 21st Street in downtown Indianapolis, and one bridge on the southbound lane of the I-65/I-465 interchange on the northwest side of the city.

The interstate had been shut down since July 1.
