Officials from the city of Indianapolis and Hamilton County Tourism Inc. will next month host the first round of public meetings regarding the White River Vision Plan. The effort aims to promote access to the river for central Indiana residents and visitors through attractions, entertainment venues, trails and neighborhoods.

The public meetings will feature community leaders and design team members presenting analysis findings and gathering feedback from community members regarding the plan. Progress on the effort will also be updated.

"Community involvement is central to the development of the White River Master Plan," said Emily Mack, director of the Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development. "As a nexus to connect Central Indiana like never before, the plan will incorporate community ideas, feedback, and concerns to ensure that the transformation of the White River becomes a genuine community-wide destination for all."

The meetings will take place at the following dates and locations:

  • July 11: Noblesville City Hall from 6 – 8 p.m. 16 S. 10th St. Noblesville, 46060
  • July 12: Marian University’s Paul J. Norman Center from 12 – 2 p.m. 3200 Cold Spring Rd, Indianapolis, 46222
  • July 12: Riverside Park Family Center Auditorium from 6 – 8 p.m. 2420 East Riverside Drive Indianapolis, 46208

Leaders of the White River Vision Plan say they also expect to hold focus groups, community surveys, and events both in Indianapolis and Hamilton County that will involve residents, institutional landowners, neighborhood and business organizations, tourism industry officials, and elected officials among others. After the 12-month planning period is complete, a final plan will be shared with the public.
