IPS Names Multiple HS Athletic Directors

Subscribe NowIndianapolis Public Schools has named four high school athletic directors: Shann Hart (pictured), Tyrone Lockhart (pictured), Donald Newberry and Katherine Langdon. These athletic directors will spearhead an increase in athletic participation giving as many students as possible the opportunity to experience the positive impacts of sports. The New All-Choice High School Model for Indianapolis Public Schools, set to launch in the 2018-19 school year, will also include a new look for athletics. With fewer high schools and larger student bodies, IPS Athletics is poised to add additional sports at each high school, including more non-traditional sports, such as swimming & diving, golf, gymnastics, rugby and lacrosse.
Additionally, IPS Athletics will be implementing changes to increase their community footprint. Each team, regardless of the sport, will be required to complete community service projects.
Hart will oversee athletics at George Washington High School. She is the former IUPUI head women’s basketball coach. Hart most recently served as athletic director at Irvington Community Schools.
Lockhart has been named athletic director at Crispus Attucks High School. He previously served as assistant director of NCAA championships & alliances and former George Washington University director of basketball operations.
Newberry will oversee athletics at Arsenal Technical High School. He is currently athletic director at Broad Ripple High School. Newberry also worked in marketing and sales for the NFL and as a sports director for the YMCA of Cincinnati and Kentucky.
Langdon will maintain her position as athletic director at Shortridge High School. She’s also the current IPS facilitator for health & wellness.
