Sharon Ramos has also been ordered to pay more than $550,000 in restitution following charges including falsifying government records, conversion of government money and wire fraud.
Trial testimony indicates Ramos created fake entries and claims in Supplemental Security Income accounts leading to multiple SSI claimants receiving benefits they were not entitled to. The trial took place in November.
United States Attorney Thomas Kirsch said "when a public employee misuses her position to break the law and violate the public trust, we will hold the employee accountable for her actions by prosecution. This case is an example of the outstanding work done by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General to root out fraud and corruption, and in this case, to hold Ms. Ramos accountable for her conduct."
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Luke N. Reilander and Frank E. Schaffer prosecuted the case.
