She will join a number of executives throughout the state including Indiana First Lady Janet Holcomb, Elevate Ventures Chief Investment Officer Ting Gootee and keynote speaker Indiana Secretary of Career Connections and Talent Blair Milo.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Burns McRobbie says, though a lot of progress is being made on big issues related to women and girls involvement in tech and entrepreneurship, there’s work to be done. She says she recognizes there is still a gender gap in technology fields, startups and available investment. However, she says educators like Indiana University can play a role in creating a solution by making sure young people "are equipped with the skills and knowledge that they need and that when we’re educating and encouraging young women — and even mid-career women, for that matter — in their career aspirations that they have to gain those technical skills and that they feel confident in the application of those skills, because they are so necessary in the jobs of today and the jobs of the future."
Burns McRobbie is a founder of the Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council at the Indiana University Foundation and has an extensive educational and technology background.
