Senator Mike Delph (R-29), who serves as a U.S. Army Reserve major, will be deployed to Puerto Rico December 8 for at least a month. Senate Pro Tem David Long (R-16) says Delph will help with ongoing disaster recovery efforts in the U.S. territory following Hurricane Maria more than a month ago.
In a statement, Long said "whether service beyond Jan. 8 will be required is not certain, but Sen. Delph will be granted the appropriate time off from his duties as a State Senator to serve in his role with the Army. I hope Sen. Delph’s constituents will join his fellow members of the Indiana General Assembly in sending him and his family our best wishes and prayers as he undertakes this service for his country and the American citizens in Puerto Rico."
The 2018 Indiana General Assembly will kick off in earnest November 21 with Organization Day at the Statehouse. Delph has represented the 29th District since 2005 and has been an Army Reserve officer for a decade.
