It will serve parts of St. Joseph, Marshall, Fulton and Starke counties as a base of operations for highway maintenance functions in the area.
It replaces the nearly 40-year-old building and salt barn in Plymouth. INDOT says it used Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting in Marshall County as a backdrop for the start of winter operations. Attendees at the event included INDOT Commissioner Joe McGuinness, LaPorte District directors, Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer, Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter, Plymouth Industrial Development Corp. President Mike Miley and other local leaders.
Construction took 15 months and the resulting facility includes 40,000 square-feet containing a full-service garage, maintenance bays, wash bays, administrative space and a "fully-contained" salt and brine-making barn.
