The 35,000 square-foot Kimura Foundry America Inc. operation will be the parent company’s first in the U.S.
Kimura Group expects the facility to create up to 20 jobs by 2020. It is expected to open by the end of next year and will supply components from the automotive and industrial sectors using 3-D printing technology.
Company, city and Shelby County Economic Development Corp. and Indiana Economic Development Corp. officials detailed plans for the operation in August. Kimura Foundry America President Yoya Fukuda said "when we were searching for our first U.S. manufacturing partner, Indiana offered exactly what we were seeking… because Indiana is strategically located in the epicenter of the industries we serve." He added the state’s work force and transportation infrastructure are also a match.
In an interview in August with Inside INdiana Business, Shelbyville Mayor Tom DeBaun said his city is geared for the needs of employers. Shelby County now counts 12 businesses with Japanese owners. The new Kimura facility is located on 10 acres at 1200 Enterprise Drive.
