The partnership with the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin will focus on sustainability of the food, water and energy supply systems in the South American country’s Arequipa region.
Purdue says the partnership is one of the largest collaborative international projects in its history. The four key elements involved in the effort include:
- the Arequipa Nexus Institute for Food, Energy, Water and the Environment
- the UNSA-Foundry and Tech park
- a curriculum development program
- an English language program
President Mitch Daniels says "in acting globally, Purdue looks for opportunities to make lasting impact on a large scale. Purdue works to create a happier, healthier and more prosperous Indiana. I hope that this will help UNSA create a happier, healthier and more prosperous Arequipa, Peru and Latin America."
Purdue has an international footprint, which includes programs in Africa, Colombia, India, China and Ireland. Its efforts in Peru already include opportunities with the University of Technology and Engineering in Lima for Purdue students through the Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
