WEST LAFAYETTE -

Purdue University says it has reached 100 startups with intellectual property through the Purdue Research Foundation, as well as another 65 based on company-owned intellectual property. The school says the startups have attracted more than $230 million in funding and support over 200 jobs.

Purdue says, of the 165 Purdue-affiliated startups, 152 are in active operation, with 137 based in Indiana. The university says the companies span industries including engineering, agriculture, information technology, veterinary science, technology, biomedicine and pharmaceuticals.

The school launched several initiatives in 2013 in hopes of helping entrepreneurs who create startups. Among them is the Purdue Foundry, an entrepreneurship and commercialization accelerator in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship in Purdue's Discovery Park. Other resources include the Purdue Startup Fund, the Trask Innovation Fund, the Anvil and the Ag-celerator.

In a report released in July by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association, Purdue ranked 12th in the world among universities granted U.S. utility patents. Purdue's Office of Technology Commercialization boasted 123 U.S. patents and 222 licensing deals of Purdue intellectual property.

Purdue Senior Vice President and Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Greg Deason will discuss the startup growth this weekend on Inside INdiana Business Television.
