Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report F.A. Wilhem Construction Co. is expected to begin work on the project next month.
The new facility will replace the Lafayette water treatment plant, which was built in 1968. That plant will be decommissioned and demolished, according to the publication. Anderson Water Department Superintendent Neal McKee says the new facility, expected to cost $8.6 million, will be able to treat 10 million gallons of water each day.
The project is expected to take 19 months to complete. Funding for the plant is coming from a $14.2 million bond approved by the Anderson City Council last year. McKee says the bond will also fund the replacement of the four wells at the Lafayette Well Field, replace water mains and upgrade the Wheeler Avenue water treatment plant.
