Phi Kappa Psi Adds to Communications Team

Indianapolis-based Phi Kappa Psi has named Beth Headrick director of communications. She most recently served as a brand editor for Eli Lilly and Co.’s cardiovascular health brand team. Headrick graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Science degree in communications management at Syracuse University. Headrick has more than 20 years of versatile public relations experiences ranging from higher education, corporate, nonprofit and healthcare.

Also, Ben Ely has been named marketing and communications manager. He most recently served as a sports information director at IUPUI where he was the primary media contact for women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis, swimming and diving. Ely holds a Master’s degree in emerging media and communications from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Phi Kappa Psi was founded in 1852 when William Henry Letterman and Charles Page Thomas Moore were students at Jefferson College in the foothills of Western Pennsylvania. The two were nursing and watching over their stricken friends during an epidemic of typhoid fever at the college. Through the long night vigils, the two established a group that was founded upon the great joy they received from selflessly helping others. Today, Phi Kappa Psi is a national fraternity of more than 80,000 living brothers who promote integrity by further developing their intellect and serving as strong community stewards. With a legacy built on acceptance and trust, each brother realizes his highest potential.

      U.S. Steel Cuts Jobs, Low Price Imports Partially to Blame

      Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel has announced it will idle its tin mill operations in East Chicago, affecting nearly 300 workers, half of which will lose their jobs. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report U.S. Steel blames the layoffs on the Del Monte food company which announced its own mass layoffs. 

    • UPDATE: Nestlé Details Fort Wayne Layoffs

      Virginia-based Nestlé USA says only 40 employees will be laid off at the company's Fort Wayne distribution center. A spokesperson for Nestlé tells Inside INdiana Business a WARN Notice filed with the state incorrectly stated the facility would close at the end of the year, affecting nearly 70 workers.

      Batesville Tool & Die is adding to its portfolio. The metal stamping manufacturer has acquired a majority interest in Tipton-based DC Coaters LLC. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
