ISO Chief to Lead National Symphony Orchestra
The chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is stepping down to take on a new role in Washington D.C. Gary Ginstling, who has led the ISO since 2013, will become the executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra.
It was not immediately known when Ginstling will step down from the ISO, however the NSO says he and his family will relocate to the D.C. area "in the coming months." In his new role, Ginstling will oversee all aspects of the orchestra, including artistic planning, operations, education initiatives, financial management and fundraising activities, among others.
"Gary’s experience as both an administrator and a musician is exceptional and creates new opportunities for engagement at the community, national, and international levels," said Jeanne Ruesch, chair of the NSO Board of Trustees. "With the addition of Gary, and the arrival of our new Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, we begin a new chapter in our history."
Before joining the ISO, Ginstling served as the general manager of The Cleveland Orchestra. He also held leadership roles at the San Francisco Symphony and the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra.
The ISO has not indicated a time frame for the search for Ginstling’s successor.
