Grant to Fuel Bosma Expansion
The United Way of Central Indiana has awarded a $750,000 grant to Indianapolis-based Bosma Enterprises. The nonprofit, which serves people who are blind or visually impaired, plans to use the funding toward the renovation and expansion of its rehabilitation center on the city’s northwest side.
Bosma says the project will cost a total of $1.5 million to complete. The nonprofit has launched a fundraising effort to raise the remaining $750,000 for the facility, which it says will significantly reduce wait times for clients.
"Right now, there are so many people who need help from Bosma Enterprises that they’re having to wait nearly six months for services. And let me tell you, when you’re asking yourself ‘What am I going to do now?’, just waiting one hour can feel like an eternity," said Lou Moneymaker, chief executive officer of Bosma Enterprises. "Renovating our Woodland Drive facility will allow us to help significantly more people help themselves a lot faster."
The renovated facility will feature a new lighting lab, a basic living skills training apartment to help clients master skills including cooking and cleaning without sight, a manual skills training room, a wellness room, a socialization room and computer accessibility labs.
Next month, Bosma will also celebrate the grand opening of a new facility on the northwest side of Indianapolis, which will double the nonprofit’s warehousing capacity and bring its disposable medical products packaging and logistics operations under one roof.
