EdChoice, a nonprofit organization that promotes state-based educational choice programs, has named Jason Bedrick director of policy. He was previously part of the EdChoice research fellowship program. Bedrick is a former New Hampshire state lawmaker who is well respected as an expert on school choice bill design and operation as well as student performance, fiscal impact and the popularity of educational choice programs across the United States. The author of numerous studies as well as mainstream media articles, he comes to EdChoice from his position as a policy analyst with the Cato Institute’s Center For Educational Freedom. The organization has hired Mike Shaw as research assistant. He also will work with the communications team on the public release of original EdChoice research that helps shape both state-based and national conversations about school choice. Shaw is a former business reporter who holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and journalism. Also, Katie Brooks (pictured) has been promoted to marketing director. She previously served as marketing communications manager. Brooks joined the EdChoice team in September 2013 as a public relations and marketing associate. She now manages EdChoice’s marketing efforts, including the EdChoice website, blog, email communications, promotional campaigns and social media channels.
