Eskenazi Health has named David Crabb chief medical officer. He has been associated with Eskenazi Health continuously since the late 1970s, first as a medical student, then as a resident, fellow, director of the gastrointestinal outpatient clinic, and as an attending physician for gastroenterology and general medicine. Crabb served as vice chair for research in the IU School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine from 1993 to 2000, then as chair from 2000 to 2015. He was appointed to serve on the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County’s Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2013 and assumed the role of chief of medicine for Eskenazi Health in 2014, a position he will maintain until a replacement is appointed. Crabb has also served as chairman of the board for Eskenazi Medical Group since 2016. In his new role, he will provide medical staff leadership and have senior administrative responsibility for quality and safety, clinical oversight, clinical informatics, physician engagement, graduate medical education and health care system management. Crabb is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and he has been elected a master of the American College of Physicians. He received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the IU School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine in 2016. His extensive experience in leadership also includes service on the boards of directors for numerous organizations, including the American Heart Association – Indianapolis Chapter, Fairbanks Hospital, the Regenstrief Institute, and the Indiana Institute for Global Health. He has also served on the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism for the National Institutes of Health.
