Purdue University President Mitch Daniels has appointed Brian Edelman the next president of the Purdue Research Foundation. Edelman, who currently serves as the foundation’s chief operating officer, succeeds Dan Hasler, who will continue in his role as chief entrepreneurial officer. Edelman will begin his new role May 1.

Hasler has served in both positions since 2013.

Edelman joined the foundation in 2015 as chief financial officer before being promoted to COO. Purdue President Mitch Daniels, who is also chairman of the board for PRF, says Edelman brings knowledge from a "stellar business career" to the position.

Daniels also praised Hasler for his continued service to the foundation. Under his direction, Purdue faculty have gone from founding just five startups using Purdue-licensed research in 2012 to 27 in 2016. Faculty also earned 118 U.S. patents in 2016, which is more than double the 2012 total.

The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities named Purdue its top recipient in Innovation for commercialization systems in 2016, and the National Business Incubation Association awarded Purdue its highest honor in 2014.

    • How to Build an Effective Team

Many leaders who are looking to increase overall productivity at their company are implementing collaborative team environments. This growing trend is backed up by a recent study that states collaborative work environments lead to an increase in overall profitability. However, teams are only effective if built correctly. Don’t expect a group of employees to work well together if you throw them in a room without cultivating any sort of trust or team building.
