Evansville Library Named Finalist For National Honor

Posted: Updated:

The Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington D.C. has named the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library a finalist for the National Medal For Museum and Library Service. EVPL Chief Executive Officer Cyndee Landrum says the medal is the nation's highest honor bestowed upon a library.

The institute says the medal "honors outstanding institutions that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities." The EVPL is the only Indiana representative among the 30 finalists, which are separated into library and museum categories.

Landrum says the selection is a testament to the community's enthusiasm, support and advocacy for the library. "It represents the strategic relationships forged with our partners to make Evansville, Vanderburgh County and the region an exceptional place for all. Being named a finalist for the National Medal also challenges us as an institution to reimagine the work and the experience of a public library in a dynamic, vibrant and evolving region."

The medal will be presented to five finalists in each category at a ceremony in Washington D.C. later this year. You can view the list of finalists by clicking here.
