Tourist Attractions Earn Development Grants

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Office of Tourism Development has awarded two Destination Development grants to facilities in Vincennes and Columbus. The matching grants are given annually to entities that are "committed to developing amenities and experiences that increase the tourism appeal of Indiana destinations."
The Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes has received $250,000 which will be used to expand the facility. The IOTD says the museum is planning to build a life-size interactive diorama that will depict U.S. military engagements from World War I through the Vietnam War.
The IOTD has also awarded more than $85,000 to the Columbus Visitors Center which will be used to create gateways and enhance streetscapes for neighborhoods throughout Bartholomew County. Some of the areas being considered for the project include the downtown arts district and the State Street neighborhood.
"IOTD’s Destination Development Grant Program was created to aid communities who show need and have a desire to make their destination a more desirable place to visit and live," said IOTD Executive Director Mark Newman. "Vincennes and Columbus will no doubt put these grant dollars to good use and carry out projects that enhance the vitality of their respective communities."
