Columbia City-based Schrader Real Estate and Auction Co. Inc., which auctioned the property, said the 303-acre farm in LaPorte County has been donated to the college.
Most of the acreage is tillable. Auction Manager Steve Slonaker said "the auction exceeded the college’s expectations, and the bidding for the cropland was especially noteworthy, with local operators dominating the bidding, which resulted in a strong price per acre. Demand remains good for quality land in good locations, and we’re seeing farmers and investors alike who are looking beyond the current commodity prices."
There were more than 40 registered bidder and four buyers acquired the property. Proceeds will benefit the college’s science programs.
