Nature Preserve Grows

JOHNSON COUNTY -

An additional 97 acres are being protected in Johnson County. The Central Indiana Land Trust says the Glacier’s End Nature Preserve now includes nearly 700 acres and is home to a newly-discovered spider species.

The 2.5 millimeter arachnid has been tentatively named "Orenoetides sp.," which relates to a genus of the same name. The spider lives in leaf litter and was found by University of Indianapolis Professor Marc Milne during a plant, animal and fungi inventory of the property.

The land trust says the preserve could open to the public in 2018. Plans call for trails, educational signage and parking areas to fit vehicles as big as school buses.CLTI was launched in 1990 has protected more than 4,700 acres of land.
