Southern Indiana Power, Dubois REC and Hoosier Energy say the array, located just north of the Dale interchange on Interstate 64 in Spencer County, is capable of producing enough electricity to power about 150 homes each year.
The one megawatt array is the fourth of 10 solar projects Hoosier Energy is adding in Indiana and Illinois as part of its "all-of-the-above" energy initiative, which launched last year. The utility worked with Southern Indiana Power and Dubois REC to find a location for the array.
"As a cooperative, our focus is always local, so we are excited to add this renewable energy resource right in our own backyard to Hoosier Energy’s generation mix," said Steve Seibert, chief executive officer of Southern Indiana Power.
Last year, Hoosier Energy dedicated its first three solar arrays in New Castle, Greene County and Harrison County.
