Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and University of Evansville President Tom Kazee will be among those detailing the locations Monday of seven stations.
Additional locations are also being worked-out. Zagster, which also has a presence in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, is providing bikes for Evansville’s version.
The first program like it in the state launched more than two years ago in Indianapolis along the Cultural Trail. It has since grown, recently adding stations and leaders are in the process of exploring an even larger footprint. In April, Fort Wayne’s program kicked-off, then in May, Carmel followed suit and our partners at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute reported in July a new business-focused program started in the Vigo County city.
The Vanderburgh County program is supported by several sponsors, including Deaconess Health System, St. Mary’s Health System, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Inc., City of Evansville Department of Metropolitan Development, Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Welborn Baptist Foundation and Meritain Health.
The news conference is slated for 10:30 a.m. Monday in Ridgway University Center on the University of Evansville campus.
UE officials say momentum for the program was started by members of Changemaker Challenge social entrepreneurship and innovation teams from the University of Evansville, Memorial High School and Central High School.
