The support is for workers whose jobs are moved to foreign countries.
The TAA will provide Carrier workers with job training and job search assistance, as well as, in some cases, income support and help with healthcare premium costs. Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), the parent of Carrier, announced earlier this year it was moving manufacturing operations at the Carrier plant in Indianapolis and the United Technologies Electronic Controls Inc. plant in Huntington to Mexico.
"This is welcome news for the hard-working Hoosiers forced to find new jobs because Carrier decided to ship their jobs to Mexico," said U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN). "With Trade Adjustment Assistance, these workers, losing their jobs through no fault of their own, will have access to the resources and training they may need to find new opportunities."
In July, workers at the UTEC facility in Huntington were made eligible for assistance under the TAA program.
