Leaders of Indianapolis-based Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana and Clarksville-based Goodwill of Southern Indiana are set to go before the international organization’s board for final approval in October.
Each Indiana organization’s respective boards has already approved the merger.
Goodwill Central Indiana Chief Executive Officer Kent Kramer says "opportunities for Goodwill territories to combine are rare, so this is a significant day in the history of both our organizations." After discussing potential program and service collaborations, Kramer and Southern Indiana CEO Candy Barksdale decided the combination could make sense. She said "Kent and I quickly realized we would be stronger if we joined forces than if we continued as separate organizations and territories."
Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications General Counsel Scott Enright serves as board chair for Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana and will become chair of the combined organization. If the merger is approved by international leadership, Kramer will become president of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana and Barksdale will serve as a consultant, following her planned retirement at the end of the year.
The first official day of the new organization is set to be January 1.
