Along with companies like Google Fiber, AT&T and Verizon, Smithville has been named to the annual Top 100 by Broadband Communities magazine.
The company has been on the list eight consecutive years and is the only Indiana-based business to be included. The publication says recipients help transform local economies or improve quality of life, introduce potentially game-changing innovations or provide other outstanding performance factors. Winners are selected by a group of fiber-in-the-home editorial and technical experts.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Darby McCarty says "given our historical commitment to risk-taking innovation and providing a high level of customer service, it is gratifying to receive national peer recognition, particularly for the eighth straight time. The national honor truly reflects the quality and performance of our Smithville professionals, who are among the best in the business."
The company says it is planning to expand its GigaCity fiber service throughout the state this year. It completed the launch of its first 100 gigabit fiber ring in April in Jasper.
