A Michigan firm that plans to involve several Hoosier sub-contractors has been selected to develop an updated master plan for the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority. Jacobsen/Daniels Associates beat out two other finalists for the $870,000 contract.

The plan has not been updated since 2001 and has been delayed awaiting last year’s completion of the $174 million runway extension. It will shape the direction of development for the next decade.

Jacobsen/Daniels is expected to complete the plan by the end of next year and it will use northwest Indiana companies such as AES Services of Schererville, DataMine in Gary, Merrillville-based Fluid Communications and Gary architects Form + Funktion.

Authority Chairman Stephen Mays says "Gary/Chicago International Airport is poised to take the next step forward and updating the airport’s Master Plan is a critical step in this important process. The team we selected today has the expertise and local understanding which will lead to the development of a strong plan for future growth and development at GYY. Anytime we have work that needs to be done at the airport we want to use local firms, not just to create jobs, but to build a community of stakeholders invested in the success of their airport."

Expectations include forecasting current and future demand, analyzing potential expansion opportunities and hosting public feedback forums.

The airport issued a Request for Qualifications for the new plan last November.
